Artwork Description

We have 3 items of the edition available. Variable dimentions. For many communities, rocks are considered their grandmothers, preserving in their silent, enduring forms the ancient wisdom of times past. Leonel Vásquez has been listening to the ancestral voices of rocks, which resonate deeply with his own sensibility. However, these voices must contend with an environment increasingly polluted by industrialization. In a field exercise, the artist seeks out rocks from contaminated water sources within his local context. In an effort to preserve their spirit, he restores their timeless voices through analog instruments that allow us to perceive beyond their material substance. By spinning the rocks on their axes and amplifying their sounds, we are able to hear the voices of these geophonic beings, releasing the creative vibrations of millions of years of geological action and a universal, harmonic mineral composition.
