Artwork Description

“Hélix” was originally conceived as a device that captures the vibrations of bodies and subtly responds to resonances and variations in its ambient surroundings. When observing the finished artwork, Artur Lescher realized that it could also be the enlarged representation of a carbon molecule: a versatile chemical element, part of the structure of organic molecules and varying from the softness of coal to the hardness of diamond, and from the most intense opacity to transparency and luminescence. A brass structure full of air, this mobile is an intimate portrait not only of our own bodies but also of the elements that compose the universe.
